Welcome to Our (Possible) House!

Mark and I got to do another walk-through of the short sale house we're trying to buy. This time, I remembered my camera!

The front door comes complete with lion door knocker...

...and leads to the front living room...

...complete with cool old-style woodstove.

Behind the front living room is the back living room, as well as a tiny storage room/mini office type room in the back of the house.

The second living room has one of the coolest doors...a dutch door! It splits in the middle so you can close just the bottom (or top)...

...and leads to the back part of the house.

This random room leads to the backyard, and the doors on the left lead to the basement (closed door) as well as a full bath with shower (open door).

Past the random room is the kitchen. It's lacking a bit as far as cabinet and counter space...

...but the view from the kitchen sink is nice. :)

The kitchen also has neat built in cabinet things in the wall.

A few steps in the front part of the kitchen lead to an extra office/bedroom room that has a door to the courtyard.

The laundry room is off the front living room in the front of the house. There is also a full bath there, too (I'm not sure what they were thinking when they decided where to put the bathrooms). This is also where the potential dealbreaker hides...the circuit breakers. Eek.

There are three bedrooms upstairs; the front room is the master bedroom, complete with walk-in closet, separate cedar closet, and the beginnings of a master bath.

The back bedroom has many angles.

But the back staircase is neat!

I really like the courtyard. You can get there from the laundry room and the front room off the kitchen.

The front yard is fairly small, but I like the porch. (Mark HATES the lavender on the porch ceiling.)

The side yard is not bad, and has a decent amount of shade.

The back patio could use some cleaning, though. :)

And the backyard is HUGE!!!

We were trying to buy the house with an FHA mortgage, but given some of the repairs they're requiring to approve the loan that may not be realistic. We're waiting to hear back from our mortgage guy, though; there may be a conventional loan option for us, and if so, that's probably the route we'll take. If we can get a conventional loan we're going to hire a house inspector; the electrical stuff is probably our biggest concern at this point. If they think it will cost a fortune to get the box cleaned up we'll probably walk away from the house, but as long as it's not ridiculous we're likely going to buy the house as-is and do as many repairs as we can ourselves as we go along. Hopefully we'll find something out soon!

  1. Very nice commentary and pictures of the house! I think the house inspector is a good idea and if you have to walk away there's -plenty more houses to look at! If you do decide to go for it - I can be a big help when it comes to the electric or just about anything... handi-man for hire all Winter if need be... Hang in there guys! Mom & Dad
