September 12th: Hello Again, Montreal!

Remember how I mentioned that I wanted to go back to Montreal to check out all the cool stuff Mark found after I left back in June? I wasn't kidding! Once again we worked the mid, slept a couple hours, then drove up to Dulles to catch our flight.   :)

This is starting to become a very familiar view. Not that I mind! (And I'll see it several more times in the next few months.)

Bye, Dulles...we'll be back in a few days!

We got a really good view of Leesburg (JYO) as we climbed out. This is where I bought my C172, though I don't think I've flown back in there since.

The ridges near Harrisburg, PA, were really cool. I liked how the river cut right down through them.

We wound up over a scattered cloud layer as we flew further north...

...but the clouds thinned out as we got closer. Hello, Montreal!

We landed, cleared customs just fine, got our metro cards, and managed to almost immediately get on a bus into the city. Turns out the bus driver was running super late and trying to make up time, which worked out great in our favor. The guy managing the line for the bus seemed a bit cranky that she started grabbing people from the middle of the line to get on the bus, but once he realized what was going on he started shoving people on the bus, too. The entire conversation was in French, but Mark was able to make out enough of what they were saying to understand what was going on. It was pretty funny.

Rather than take the bus and metro right to the apartment, we decided to stop off at the Atwater Market first to pick up some snacks.

Everything was absolutely beautiful. We had to keep reminding ourselves not to buy too much, which was tough because I just wanted to eat everything in sight.

We took a short break for a croissant and some fresh strawberries, stopped at the nearby liquor store to pick up a bottle of wine, then took the Metro to Mont Royal. We had managed to get the same apartment we'd stayed in back in June, so it felt a little bit like coming home again.

Mmm...tasty snacks! We hung out on the back deck while we ate our snacks, then hung out in the hot tub for a little while and finished our glasses of wine. We were getting hungry for dinner by then, so we got cleaned up and took a short walk down to...

...the delicious grilled cheese place. We split a grilled mac and cheese sandwich; there was Kraft mac and cheese in the middle. It was really good. The curly fries and salads were really good, too.

We ended the night at Mark's favorite bar, Lab. His favorite bartender lady just happened to be there, so we got to hang out with her for a little bit (while she stuffed us with shots of the cool liquors she likes, like green chartreuse). The drink I ordered was fantastic and even came in a little beehive cup...I could definitely see why Mark liked it here! We hung out for a while longer, then eventually made our way back to the apartment. We were wiped out, but it had been a really good start to the trip!
