November 28th: One Last Trip

It wouldn't be late November/early December without a birthday trip! After all of the crazy trips we've taken this year, I thought it would be nice to end our traveling with some lazy time on a beach. Some clicking around on Cheap Caribbean later, we had a few days at an all-inclusive resort just south of Cancun booked and waiting for us. We worked the mid, drove right to Dulles, and a couple hours later...

...we were on takeoff roll. Again. Goodbye, Dulles!

When I went to check in for our flight the night before, I noticed a little 'upgrade' button on the website. I clicked on it just to see what it was, and it turned out we could upgrade to business class for less than $140 each! I'd never flown business class before, and since I knew we'd be tired from staying up all night at work, I figured it would be worth the extra money.

It was worth every penny. My gosh, that was great hahaha. We got to board the plane first, got pre-takeoff drinks and hot towels, and even got a full breakfast. With real silverware. It was fantastic.

The flight was a bit over three hours long, and we eventually caught sight of Mexico.

We landed at Cancun just fine. I loved how we had to taxi over a highway to get to the terminal, and even better, the control tower has giant Corona beer signs running down the side.  :)

Customs was super fast, our airport transfer was really smooth, and a little while later we were checking into the Valentin Imperial Maya. It took a little while for our room to be ready, but we spent the time checking out the buffet lunch while we waited. After a little while we made it to our room (which was fantastic and had the lazy river pool running through the backyard), hung out for a little while, then went for a walk to check out the beach.

It was pretty darn nice.   :)

There was a small bar right near the beach, so we grabbed a drink.

There were a whole bunch of thatched umbrellas along the beach, and we hung out on some beach chairs under one for a little while before exploring a bit more.

We eventually took a walk all the way down the beach, then followed a path back up toward the room.

This was the view from our room's backyard. Not bad! We hung out for a little while, enjoying our drinks, then got cleaned up and went back up to the lobby for...

...the giant Mexican-themed party they were having. We grabbed dinner from the buffet, found some seats, and watched some of the singers and dancers while we ate.

It was pretty cool to see a real mariachi band. They were really good! After dinner, we wandered around a bit more, then made our way back to the room. It had been a loooong day, and I was definitely looking forward to some sleep!
